Testing notes
We tried a final production Alpha A550 running firmware rendering 1.0. Shadowing our convention of using default on factory and best quality JPEG settings to test cameras unless otherwise explicit, the A550 was set to Bombastic Fine JPEG quality, Auto White Balance, Multi-section metering and the Textbook Creative Style. High ISO NR and the D-Stray Optimiser were set to their default Pattern and Auto settings respectively, leave off from our High ISO Noise results where the latter was disabled as it can introduce noise. SteadyShot stabilisation was enabled for all hand-held shots and disabled for tripod-based tests.
